MobilePDQ™, Data
Concepts' Window Mobile client, will operate flawlessly
on any Microsoft certified Windows Mobile 2005 computer
with two exceptions (scanning and printing). We can
still license our software to your company if you have
invested in handheld computers (Windows Mobile
certified) that we do not sell.
These mobile devices would be Pocket PC's other than
from Intermec, Symbol (Motorola) or Socket Mobile.
Windows Mobile does not have standard printer or barcode
scanner device drivers. We will need to work with your
manufacturer or dealer to get the SDK (Software
Development Kit) for your device so we can obtain the
.NET code to include in our program to print or scan
barcodes.
Our experience is that consumer-level PDA's including
iPAQ's and Pocket PC Phones are not durable enough for
traditional DSD route activities such as beer or soft
drink delivery. However, they may work in less strenuous
activities such as sales order taking.
The Socket SoMo-650 and Motorola MC-50 Pocket PC's are
very reasonably priced and are only slightly more
expensive than a higher-end consumer PDA. The
lower-priced devices are often more expensive in the
long run (3 - 5 years) because of the costs associated
with down time and maintenance. The higher the drop
test, the more durable the handheld computer.
